The issue with marine construction projects today

The usual approach to marine construction does not align the Owner, the designers, and the contractor.

As a result, most marine construction projects have over-extended timelines and blown budgets and a high potential for contract disputes.

Our organization was founded with one simple idea:
Marine construction doesn’t have to be this way.

IT’S TIME TO ELEVATE EXPECTATIONS IN THE MARINE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Whether you’re building from scratch or revamping existing infrastructure, you deserve better than the status quo.

Time and again, we’ve seen the bloated, inefficient design-bid-build approach lead to costly delays and project cancellations. Our whole organization is committed to completely changing this approach.

We aim to be the leading marine design and construction partner as we revolutionize waterfront projects through innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions.

THE TURNAGAIN MARINE CONSTRUCTION APPROACH

Fewer Stakeholders, Better Results

Turnagain’s END² process eliminates inherent conflicts of interest, inefficiencies, delays, and loss of accountability associated with the traditional approach.

Instead, our highly efficient approach tailors a high-quality design around your project needs and priorities as well as generating a delivery-oriented timeline and an accurate budget early on. Then, we fulfill our obligations with minimal surprises, halts, or excessive contingency issues.

Our fine-tuned END² process gives Owners, developers, and communities a simpler way to get facilities approved, funded, and completed.

We bring our END² process into every project:

Dependability

Our team manages every element of the project development, eliminating hand-offs and uncertainty associated with multiple stakeholders.

Ingenuity

Since we are involved in every aspect of the project development, we have the ability to explore solutions other groups cannot.

Accountability

From end-to-end, we are responsible for meeting your objectives.

Our STORY

Founded in 2014 in Anchorage, Alaska, Turnagain Marine Construction was built on the idea that less conflict and more accountability throughout the process will lead to better results.

Founded
Jason Davis and Jon Archer started Turnagain Marine. Jon was the President of Triton Marine and Jason Davis had been running the Alaskan operations for another Alaskan marine construction firm. Jason’s vision was to create a new type of company that catered to long-term, relationship-based clients and excelled at technical, professional execution.
July 2014
Contract Backlog
Turnagain had $37M in contract backlog (awarded contracts, not yet built).
Nov. 2014
Construction Begins at Icy Strait Point
Turnagain began field construction at Icy Strait Point.
2016
Best Value Procurement Method
Turnagain won three additional design-build contracts using the best value procurement method. Again, on each project Turnagain both received the highest technical score and provided the lowest cost solution.
2017-2018
Awarded ISP Berth II
Turnagain was awarded ISP Berth II based off of past performance and the outstanding relationship forged with the client on the first berth.
2019
In-House Engineering
Turnagain became a professional organization and began performing design engineering work. It also became an integrated design-builder with full in-house design and construction capability.
2022
Upcoming Projects
Turnagain is actively design-building several large projects ranging from $25M to $176M. All won best value, best technical solution, and lowest cost. The company won a competitive international design-build project, beating firms from the US and Europe by, once again, having the best technical score and lowest cost. Turnagain celebrated nine years of claim- and litigation-free performance.
2023
May 2014
First Project Bid
Turnagain bid its first project.
Nov. 2014
Best Value Award
Turnagain won a best value design-build competition, beating the established industry leaders in both their pricing and technical solution (design, project approach, risk mitigation, value, quality, schedule).
Mar. 2015
Icy Straight Award
Icy Strait Point won the AGC of Alaska Build America Best project award in the large heavy civil category.
2016
Injury Free
Turnagain job sites remained injury free.
2018
Awarded $40M Cruise Berth
Turnagain was awarded a $40M design-build cruise berth without a bidding process. This was because the Owner only wanted to work with Turnagain due to past performance, professionalism, reputation, and integrity. The project won two state and three national awards.
2020
NCL and Huna Totem Project
Turnagain helped NCL and Huna Totem imagine, plan, and develop a cruise destination in Whittier, AK. Turnagain provided concept development, design, and construction services, all with in-house capability. It was an injury-free year.
2023
Company Rebrand & New Website
Turnagain announced its new brand and website to the industry.
